Have some fun hosting a Halloween party
October is here and it makes me wish Australia embraced one of the more fantastical holidays on the calendar: Halloween. I can’t really think of another holiday that presents such wonderful possibilities for going all-out when entertaining. Since it’s still a little chilly for a garden party, I have decided to have a Halloween party despite the lack of enthusiasm our Antipodean culture has displayed for the tradition. My version of a Halloween party will involve a jolly evening soiree and a sophisticated spookiness with my décor and references with food. With my passion for hosting social events, I spend a fair amount of time trawling the web for delicious dinner party recipes and entertaining ideas. During recent surf I discovered a blog called Young House Love who have made a short video on chic ways to decorate your home when hosting a Halloween party. In addition these tips, I plan to cut out mice and rats from black card and stick them along the skirting board and up the stairs, put a classic carved pumpkin by the front door, string up orange paper lanterns and dress the table with a striking black and white theme. My velvety chocolate cake will be served for dessert with a thick raspberry sauce to slyly suggest the bloodier associations expected at every successful Halloween Party. Oh, and just this once I might ask my guests to dress in theme: black only. Well, I want to photos to look as gorgeous as my table dressing will!
